Sasha was transgender in the early years of her high school years. It was a difficult time and a lot of stress, however Sasha believed that with the support from his family and friends she could take on anything. Jim and Sasha are both songwriters. The duo has been performing at local venues along with open mics and elsewhere. The Voice coaches didn't discuss Sasha's past, but Jim and he talked about their story before they performed. Jim and Sasha spoke about the genre of music they enjoy in addition to how Sasha picked up the guitar for the first time when she was six. Because his father was an expert music teacher and musician, he was at understanding the concept. Sasha was born female and struggled to find his identity when he was young. In an Instagram post, she spoke about his struggles. Jim was overcome with tears in his post as he revealed the reasons the reason he was not a the victim of this difficult time. Sasha posted on Instagram his status as the third transgender person to have ever appeared on the series. He stated that he felt at peace and proud to represent all trans people.
